Recycling Your Used Motor Oil and Filters Is Easy and Free!

Motor oil picks up heavy metals and other particles as it’s working in our car engines. This stuff is pretty nasty and can potentially harm our ecosystem. When dumped, used oil will not only contaminate and damage the soil, it could make its way into the groundwater. Around 706 million gallons of waste oil enter the ocean each year*, and lots of it comes from improper used oil disposal. Thankfully, there is an easy solution to this problem – recycle it!

When we change our oil, the old oil hasn’t gone bad; it’s just dirty. The recycling process cleans the oil so it can be used over and over again.

Recycle these materials at no charge at one of over 50 drop-off locations in the county. Find your nearest motor oil and filter recycling center in the “Where to Go” section at the bottom of our Motor Oil Recycling and Oil Filter Recycling pages.

Used oil should be stored in a rigid plastic container until recycled. Never put used oil in the trash, even if it's in a container.
