Hello. I am Leslie Wells, the Deputy Director for the Resource Recovery & Waste Management Division within the County of Santa Barbara Public Works Department. Our Division is staffed with approximately 100 employees and is committed to providing regional residents and businesses with cost-effective, innovative, and environmentally sound solutions to manage our community's waste.

We take pride in designing and implementing programs and operating facilities that educate and engage residents and businesses to actively participate in efforts that benefit our local environment. We strive to continually improve our services and responsiveness to the needs of the County for whom we serve.

Our efforts have directly resulted in a high level of service that you will find detailed on our website and in our Annual Report for Solid Waste Management Services (Fiscal Year 2019-20).

You can also read more about us on the County's Public Works website.

What about this LessIsMore.org site?

LessIsMore.org has been the Division's tool to communicate with the public about recycling and hazardous waste programs and events since 1999. In 2011, LessIsMore.org 2.0 was released to include much of the information in the Division's Recycling Resource Guide. The guide includes extremely comprehensive listings of ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

If you want to check if a material or item is trash or recyclable, this site aims to tell you as fast as possible. The extensive listing of locations aims to help people in all areas of the County.

If you have any other questions about this site or the Division, please contact us.

You can also visit our staff directory if you have questions about a specific program or topic.
