New Food Forward Booklet Available!

By Aug 21, 2019

With step-by-step instructions for setting up food recovery and composting programs at local schools, our new Food Forward: School Edition booklet is a great resource for teachers, custodians, and administrators.

Roughly 20% of landfilled waste in Santa Barbara County is uneaten food. When landfilled, food and other organics produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas.

New California regulations require a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from landfills, which is motivating the development of new programs to divert organics from the landfill. By recovering edible food for the more than 28,000 local children at risk of not getting enough and by composting inedible food scraps, we can help meet California's new emissions standards and prevent children and families from going hungry.
