Crayon Recycling?

Crayons are made from petroleum, and just like other oil based products, yes, they can be recycled.

Businesses that generate lots of crayons are particularly great candidates for participating in the program highlighted below.

Recycling crayons involves melting down the crayon and reforming it. This isn't a terribly complicated process and you can actually do it at home if you have an appropriate mold.

Keep in mind that just like all recycling processes, this requires more energy than just reusing the crayons. If you have crayons that are in good enough shape to reuse, take a look at our Art and Craft Reuse page or School Supplies page for ideas.

Crayons Gone Crazy

A company called Crazy Crayons takes broken pieces of crayons and makes beautiful and interestingly shaped new crayons out of them. They're always looking for more participants, so check out their website if you have some to donate.
