VFMA Earth Day Celebration

April 7th, 1:00 pm

Address:

On Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 1:00pm – 11:00pm, the Village Farmers Market Association will host the first ever VFMA Earth Day Celebration at the White Oaks Hotel in Vandenberg Village, CA. This celebration will educate and inform residents about earth-friendly practices in a fun, enjoyable, family friendly setting.

Why?

Along with V.F.M.A.'s mission to support local organic food is also our goal of educating our community about the ways one can reduce their impact on the earth by reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting. There's no better occasion to host a community wide event that honors our earth and spreads the word about these earth-friendly practices than Earth Day.

What's so Earth-Friendly About it?

VFMA will be screening (for free) three up-beat premier documentaries that highlight farmers, eco-activists, businesses, government agencies, families, and common folk that are all doing their part to ensure their impact on our earth and its natural resources is as small as possible. These documentaries will educate, inspire, and motivate folks, leaving them wanting to learn more about how they can lessen their impact on our earth.

Local businesses, government entities, and residents will display their efforts in reducing their footprint on our earth. Santa Barbara County Planning and Development Department, Vandenberg Village’s Community Services District, Santa Barbara County’s Less is More program, Santa Barbara County Third District Supervisor Doreen Farr, and May John Linn, will be in attendance.

Food served at the celebration will be locally produced: beef from DeyDey’s Best Beef Ever in Buellton, beans from Lompoc’s Sun Coast Farm, and a salad made from local fixins’. Beer served will be from Buellton’s Figueroa Mountain Brewery, and wine from Lompoc’s New Vineland Winery. All food and beverages will be served using biodegradable and plant based cups, plates, and utensils.

When / Where / How?

From 1:00pm until 7:00pm the celebration will feature three documentary screenings. Also during this time, hand-made and earth-friendly products will be for sale along with demonstrations in the White Oaks Hotel parking lot. From 7:00pm until 11:00pm, there will be live music inside the White Oaks Hotel. From 3:00pm - end, fresh local food, beer from Figueroa Mountain Brewery, and wine from Piedrasassi New Vineland Winery will be served.
