Landfills

The County of Santa Barbara runs one active landfill and monitors all closed landfills currently or previously owned by the County. Landfills are the final destination for all the waste that is not recycled or reused. Refuse is buried in a highly controlled fashion. Other landfills located within the County are operated by the municipalities in which they are located, and Vandenberg Air Force Base owns and operates its own landfill.
