Public Hearing Scheduled for Single-Use Plastic Bag Ban Ordinance Draft EIR

The County will hold a public hearing on Thursday, January 16 at 5:00 p.m. in the Planning Commission Hearing Room (123 East Anapamu Street, First Floor) to receive verbal comments on the draft EIR for the Single-Use Plastic Bag Ban Ordinance. Written comments will be accepted until Friday, January 24.

The draft EIR is now available for public download! We are receiving comments on this document until January 27, 2014. There will also be a public hearing on the draft EIR at the County Planning Commission Hearing Room (located on the first floor of the Main County Administration Building at 105 East Anapamu) on January 16, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.

County Moves Forward With Plastic Bag Ordinance EIR

New Retail-Based Paint Collection Program

Now when you go to buy new paint, you may be able to bring your old paint back to the same location. In October 2012 seven paint retailers in Santa Barbara County began participating in a new collection program operated by the industry group PaintCare. Residents, as well as qualifying businesses, are able to use the drop-off sites at no charge.

Resource Recovery Project Begins Environmental Review

On November 13 the County Board of Supervisors approved private consulting contracts that formally begin the environmental review of the regional Resource Recovery Project. The proposed project will increase recycling, provide compost, generate green energy, and reduce future greenhouse gas emissions related to the management of the communities' solid waste.
